My brother's suicide
I'd come back to New York for a weekend, and my mom told me he wasn't feeling well. We spoke on the phone, and he seemed anxious, distracted, as if his thoughts were elsewhere.
That night he slept in my mom's apartment, and I remember going into his room and talking with him in the darkness. I can't recall what we talked about, but it was frightening to see him like that.

Heater safety tips thwart hazards
A portable electric heater can be an energy-saver, but it can also be a fire or shock hazard if used improperly. The following safety tips come from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers:

Lay the heater's power cord on top of rugs or carpeting. Placing anything, including furniture, on the cord may damage it.
Keep combustible materials such as furniture, fabric and paper at least three feet from the front of the heater and away from the sides and rear. More>>

The Democratic Party looks at our nation and sees the twilight of the American soul.
Republicans affirm that now, as throughout history, the spiritual and intellectual genius of the American people will create a better nation and maintain a just peace. To Republicans, creativity and growth are imperatives for a new era of opportunity for all.
The Republican Party's vision of America's future, the heart of our 1984 Platform, begins with a basic premise: From freedom comes opportunity; from opportunity comes growth; from growth comes progress. More>>
